These real-life gremlins are some killer cuties — and are paying the price for it.

Furry and cuddly creatures called slow lorises are being captured and sold as pets out of their jungle habitats in Southeast Asia. But because they’re known for having a venomous bite, which can release a deadly toxin, their captors are ripping out their tiny teeth with nail clippers.

Adding to the torture, the mammals’ fur is sometimes dyed or bleached, causing infections, according to reports.

Animal rights groups are speaking out against the exotic-pet trade and the treatment of slow lorises, which are sometimes abandoned or found debilitated and no longer able to live in the wild.

“The openness of the slow-loris trade highlights the fact that having one of the region’s best wildlife protection laws and promising to protect species is not enough — there must be stronger enforcement in Indonesia and the public should stop supporting the illegal wildlife trade,” Chris Shepherd, deputy regional director of TRAFFIC South-East Asia, told Britains’ Wanderlust magazine.

The magazine said the animals — nicknamed “jungle gremlins” — are sold for as little as $16 or in Japan for allegedly as much as $5,650.

ตัวเกรมลินในโลกแห่งความเป็นจริงก็คือนักฆ่าผู้น่ารักนั่นเอง แต่คนก็พร้อมจะจ่ายเงินซื้อพวกเขามา

สิ่งมีชีวิตขนปุกปุยและน่ากอดนี้เรียกว่า ลิงลม หรือ นางอาย พวกมันจะถูกจับออกมาจากถิ่นที่อยู่อาศัยในป่าแถบเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้เพื่อนำมาขายเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยง ทั้งๆที่พวกนายพรานก็ต่างรู้ดีว่านางอายให้พิษได้โดยการกัด ซึ่งเป็นพิษที่สามารถเป็นอันตรายถึงชีวิตได้ ดังนั้นนายพรานหรือผู้ขายจะใช้กรรไกรตัดเล็บตัดเขี้ยวของพวกเขาออก

การเพิ่มการทรมานสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมขนปุกปุยนี้ บางครั้งพวกมันก็ถูกย้อมสีหรือฟอกขาว ก่อให้เกิดการติดเชื้อตามมา ดังที่เคยมีรายงานมาแล้ว

Requirements

Must have a bachelor degree in education, environment, wildlife or related fields. Bilingual in written and spoken Thai/English. Thai national. Some experience in the field of education, conservation or animal care. Need to be able to take initiative and work well alone and with others.

Duties

1. Manage existing Love WIldlife campaigns and develop future campaigns, on a range of animal protection issues, initially focusing on the Dolphin Tales / Ocean campaigns.
2. Arrange and attend meetings with key stakeholders for various campaigns.
3. Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders.
4. Develop and implementing effective communication strategies.
5. Engage and support campaign partners to communicate campaign messages.
6. Ensure various components of campaigns are completed on time.
7. Liaise with other organizations on joint campaigns.
8. Give talks at schools/ in the community.
9. Assist with developing educational programs and materials, including roadshow materials.
10. Man roadshows- at schools and public.
11. Maintain roadshow exhibits and collaterals, making sure they are kept in good condition and fixing/replacing items as necessary.
12. Pack and unpack all roadshows and deliver to venues.
13. Assist in blog-writing and updating the online information, letter writing and other correspondents.
14. Write a bi-monthly update to Earth Island Institute on the development and progress of related campaigns.
15. Your job will require you to perform tasks other than what is stated above as what is needed to complete work for Love Wildlife.
16. You will be required to help find funds and write proposals for campaigns and sponsorship applications.

ต้องมีวุฒิการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีในสาขาวิชาที่เกี่ยวข้อง เช่น สิ่งแวดล้อม สัตว์ป่าหรือสาขาที่ใกล้เคียง สามารถพูดและเขียนภาษาไทยและภาษาอังกฤษได้  สัญชาติไทย มีประสบการณ์ในด้านการให้การศึกษานอกสถานที่ การอนุรักษ์หรือการดูแลสัตว์ เราต้องการคนที่มีความคิดริเริ่มสร้างสรรค์และสามารถทำงานคนเดียวและทำงานร่วมกับคนอื่นๆได้

หน้าที่

1. จัดการโครงการต่างๆที่มีอยู่ในมูลนิธิรักสัตว์ป่าและพัฒนาโครงการคุ้มครองสัตว์ป่าโครงการอื่นๆที่จะเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต โดยโครงการหลักมุ่งเน้นไปที่โครงการดอลฟินเทลส์ / โครงการทางทะเล
2. จัดเตรียมงานและเข้าร่วมการประชุมกับผู้ถือผลประโยชน์ร่วมในโครงการต่างๆ
3. สามารถสร้างความสัมพันธ์อันดีระหว่างผู้ถือผลประโยชน์ร่วมทุกราย
4. สามารถพัฒนาและใช้กลยุทธ์การสื่อสารอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
5. ร่วมมือและสนับสนุนพันธมิตรทุกๆโครงการเพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลของโครงการร่วมกัน
6. ตรวจสอบให้แน่ใจว่าส่วนต่างๆภายในโครงการจะสามารถเสร็จได้ทันเวลา
7. ติดต่อประสานงานกับองค์กรอื่นๆเกี่ยวกับโครงการที่ทำงานร่วมกัน
8. เป็นวิทยากรบรรยายความรู้ตามโรงเรียนหรือตามชุมชนต่างๆได้
9. ให้ความช่วยเหลือดูแลด้านการพัฒนาโปรแกรมการศึกษาและวัสดุอุปกรณ์ต่างๆ รวมไปถึงอุปกรณ์ที่ใช้ในการออกบูธ
10. สามารถดำเนินงานออกบูธตามโรงเรียนและตามสถานที่สาธารณะต่างๆได้
11. รักษาอุปกรณ์จัดงานและของมีค่าต่างๆให้อยู่ในสภาพดีและสามารถซ่อมแซมหรือเปลี่ยนใหม่ได้ตามความจำเป็น
12. จัดเตรียมและจัดเก็บสิ่งของที่ใช้ในการจัดงานและนำไปยังสถานที่จัดงานด้วย
13. มีความสามารถในเรื่องของการเขียนบล็อกและปรับปรุงข้อมูลออนไลน์  เขียนจดหมายและให้ข้อมูลกับผู้ที่ติดต่อมาทางจดหมายได้
14. เขียนรายงานทุกๆสองเดือนเพื่อส่งอีเมล์ไปยังสถาบัน Earth Island เพื่อรายงานความคืบหน้าของมูลนิธิฯและความก้าวหน้าของโครงการที่เกี่ยวข้อง
15. คุณอาจต้องทำงานอื่นนอกเหนือจากหน้าที่ที่ได้รับมอบหมายไว้ข้างต้น ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่จำเป็นสำหรับการทำงานในมูลนิธิรักสัตว์ป่า
16. ช่วยหาเงินทุนหรือเงินบริจาคได้ โดยสามารถเขียนแผนโครงการเพื่อยื่นเสนอให้กับบริษัทหรือองค์กรที่ต้องการสนุบสนุนโครงการพิจารณา

Speak out for animals on April 5th, 2012!

The Animal Activist Alliance is a group of several animal groups and individuals all speaking out for the wellbeing of animals, domestic and wild. They have organized a rally to demonstrate the importance of an animal protection law and to hand over a petition to the government (at the Parliament Building) to pass this law as soon as possible.

With the recent events of dying animals due to poaching and the wild/dog meat trade, it is time for everyone to come out and show their support for the animals! Love Wildlife will be joining this rally and hope so see many of our followers there as well.

We will gather at Parliament, Gate 3 (Near Dusit Zoo Parking Structure) at 9am. The rally will take place from 9am-12pm.

AAA Animal Activists Alliances หรือ “แนวร่วมการเคลื่อนไหวเพื่อสวัสดิภาพสัตว์ไทย” คือการรวมตัวของบุลคลและองค์กรณ์ต่างๆจากหลายๆแห่งในประเทศไทย ที่มาร่วมกันจัดตั้งเป็นเครือข่ายเพื่อออกมาเรียกร้องขอความเป็นธรรมในเรื่องสวัสดิภาพของสรรพสัตว์ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงหรือสัตว์ป่า เครือข่ายการเคลื่อนไหวนี้ มีความจำเป็นและต้องการที่จะออกมาเดินขบวนเพื่อเรียกร้องและขอความเป็นธรรมเกี่ยวกับกฏหมายคุ้มครองสวัสดิภาพของสัตว์ทุกชนิด ในการเดินขบวนครั้งนี้ทางเครือข่ายมีจุดประสงค์คือต้องการที่จะยื่นหนังสือหรือจดหมายเปิดผนึกไปถึงรัฐบาลของประเทศไทยที่จะมีการประชุมกันที่รัฐสภาเพื่อที่จะได้มีการร่างกฏหมายคุ้มครองสรรพสัตว์เหล่านี้โดยเร็วที่สุด

เนื่องด้วยจากที่มีเหตุการลักลอบค้าสัตว์ป่าและซากสัตว์กันอย่างแพร่หลายเป็นจำนวนมากที่ตกเป็นข่าวอยู่ในแต่ละวันเป็นประจำในระยะหลัง รวมถึงการลักลอบค้าสุนัขและเนื้อสุนัขข้ามชาติอย่างเปิดเผย ไม่เกรงกลัวอำนาจรัฐ

ณ บัดนี้ ทางเครือข่ายแนวร่วมการเคลื่อนไหวเพื่อสวัสดิภาพสัตว์ไทย เห็นสมควรเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่มันถึงเวลาที่พวกเราทุกคนจะออกมาแสดงให้เห็นถึงพลังและเจตนารมณ์อันบริสุทธ์ เพื่อออกมาปกป้องชีวิตของสรรพสัตว์เหล่านี้ ทางมูลนิธิรักสัตว์ป่าเองก็ได้เป็นส่วนหนึงในพลังสนับสนุนการผลักดันใหเออกกฏหมายในครั้งนี้ ทางมูลนิธิรักสัตว์ป่าจึงใคร่ขอให้สมาชิกและผู้ติดตามข่าวสารทุกท่านได้ออกมาแสดงพลังเป็นเสียงให้กับสรรพสัตว์ทั้งหลาย ร่วมมือร่วมใจผลักดันให้รัฐบาลไทยได้ออกกฏหมายพิทักษ์ความปลอดภัยให้แก่เพื่อนร่วมโลกของเรากัน

The students at Regents International School – Pattaya participated in a enrichment activity for the rescued and confiscated bears at the Banglamung Wildlife Breeding Center with Love Wildlife Foundation during their Round Square Week.

นักเรียนโรงเรียนนานาชาติเดอะรีเจ้นท์พัทยาได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมเสริมสร้างความรู้เรื่องหมีที่ถูกช่วยเหลือและถูกยึดมา สถานที่จัดกิจกรรมอยู่ที่สถานีเพาะเลี้ยงสัตว์ป่าบางละมุงซึ่งร่วมมือกับมูลนิธิรักสัตว์ป่าในช่วง Round Square Week ของโรงเรียน ซึ่งเป็นสัปดาห์ที่เด็กๆจะได้ออกไปทำกิจกรรมร่วมกับองค์กรหรือชุมชนต่างๆเพื่อพัฒนาสังคมต่อไป
